Dominican Cigars

dominican cigarsYou don’t have to be the most interesting man (or woman) in the world to enjoy the occasional cigar. When it comes to cigars and tobacco, there is a long history in the New World of cultivation and production. The islands of the Caribbean are well known for their quality leaf, Cuba being the most famous. The Dominican Republic is not as prominent as Cuba in this area, but Dominican farmers and manufacturers have been producing high quality cigars for centuries.

So, when you take your next Dominican Republic vacation, we want you to stay at our luxurious La Vista location and be sure to visit Santiago. In the Dominican Republic, Santiago is widely considered to be the nexus of the local cigar industry. Cigars are big business in the Dominican Republic and they export millions every year. While most of those go to Europe or the United States, there will be more than enough left over locally for you to enjoy one (or two).

When you’re in Santiago, make sure you visit a cigar factory where you can watch skilled craftsmen hand roll individual cigars. How many? A practiced craftsman can produce up a few hundred in a single day. Like anyone who is really good at their job, watching these craftsmen work is amazing and an interesting way to spend an afternoon.
